The use of black seed oil dates back more than 3,400 years! Russians call it “tchernushka”; it’s “faux anis” in France, “happa sooda” in Oman, “sweet love in the mist” in North America, and “Roman coriander” in Rome. Nigella sativa and its seeds are known by other names, depending on the location; some call it “black caraway,” “habbat al-barakah,” and “habbat sawda,” others “black cumin” (“kaloundji”), or even “coriander seeds.” Nevertheless, it is Nigella sativa, which has been known and used since ancient times and is called “shonaiz” in Persia.

Black seed oil has been and is still used, in dozens of countries around the world, for its many health and beauty benefits.

An annual herbaceous plant, black cumin (Nigella sativa) is believed to be native to the Mediterranean region, but is also cultivated in other parts of the world, including the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, and some Asian regions. Small and hairy, not exceeding 3 mm in length, black cumin comes from the common fennel flower of the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). Nigella sativa and Foeniculum vulgare, fennel, are sometimes mistakenly confused.

Various global institutes are studying the therapeutic use of black seed oil for chronic diseases and their effects. The same previously made discoveries are being reported. Studies show that, with the use of black seed oil, valuable unsaturated fatty acids such as linoleic and gamma-linolenic acids penetrate the body. This allows for the synthesis of important immune system-regulating substances derived from prostaglandin E1. Linoleic acid stabilizes cell membranes, and prostaglandin has the effect of preventing inflammation. Immune reactions that cause diseases and can mark the beginning of chronic diseases such as acne and hay fever can be stopped. Furthermore, the excessive activity of T-lymphocytes in an allergic person is stabilized thanks to a substance found in black seed oil, as is the abnormal increase in immune reactions through the suppression of antibodies.

Studies also attest that a poorly functioning immune system can be regulated thanks to the vigorous effect of black seed oil. Scientists tested the effects of the oil on 600 patients. Their results confirm the healing of allergies in approximately 70% of patients. Among these were cases of pollen and dust allergies, acne, and neurodermatological diseases, etc., who generally had low resistance and were prone to infections.
